Mission

The mission of the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center Mountain Correctional Center Education and Training Department is to provide prisoners with the opportunity to develop proper work skills and acquire training, which will translate into economic self-sufficiency upon release, thereby reducing recidivism. The citizens of Alaska benefit from a correctional educational system that provides incarcerated individuals with improved resources to cope with life.

Goals

The Hiland Mountain Correctional Center Education and Training Department goal is to offer a wide variety of educational and vocational programs to assist inmates in obtaining the necessary skills and certifications to secure viable employment once released. Academic educational program offered to offenders are designed and delivered on a continuum from Life Skills, Cognitive Self Change, Adult Basic Education, to obtaining a GED, through advanced vocational training programs.
