Region I is located in the south central section of the state, supervising adult felons through five district offices in Bethel, Dillingham, Kenai, Kodiak and Palmer, with a total staff complement of 40. The region's 28 probation officers, assisted by support staff, supervise offenders for the Superior Courts located in the Third and Fourth Judicial Districts as well as for the Alaska Board of Parole. Each of the district offices in Region I supervise felony offenders who reside in rural and/or remote areas, often requiring officers to travel to the communities via automobile, small plane, snow machine or boat.

The services provided by this region are:

	Maintain public safety by developing and implementing probation supervision standards in conjunction with the other Regional Chief Probation Officers.

	Standardize probation officer training and the delivery of probation/parole services throughout the region.

	Provide increased supervision for high-risk sex offenders.

	Maintain and enhance communications with the criminal justice system.

	Research and develop alternatives to incarceration, intermediate sanction programs and accountability programming for those who violate their conditions of probation (e.g., victim impact classes and non-criminal problem solving skill programs).
