Correctional OFFICER
Correctional Officers are sworn law-enforcement officers responsible for maintaining security within Alaska's correctional centers. Officers oversee the safety of all staff and prisoners and have a direct impact on public safety and offender rehabilitation.
Competitive Pay

Correctional Officer 1
Correctional Officer 1 salaries range from $26.40/hr to $43.52, depending on location of position. A Correctional Officer 1 will promote to Correctional Officer 2 after 12-14 months of probationary service and upon successful completion of the Alaska Police Standards Council certification requirements.
Correctional Officer 2
With one year Correctional Officer experience in an adult correctional institution and successful completion of a Correctional Officer academy with a minimum of 200 hours, the Correctional Officer 2 level starts between $29.95/hr to $44.93, depending on location.
Officers are eligible for scheduled raises annually.
WEEK-ON/WEEK-OFF SCHEDULE
Correctional Officers work an 84-hour work week, with a schedule of one week-on, one week-off that alternates day/night shifts.
STATEWIDE OPPORTUNITIES
The Department of Corrections operates 12 Correctional Facilities in locations across the state including Anchorage, Eagle River, Palmer, Wasilla, Pt. Mackenzie, Juneau, Ketchikan, Fairbanks, Nome, Seward, Kenai and Bethel.

TRAINING ACADEMY
Correctional Officers are paid to attend a seven-week Training Academy that teaches the skills and knowledge base an officer needs to effectively and safely perform the duties of a Correctional Officer. Some of the curriculum includes: defensive tactics, firearms (shotgun), deescalation techniques, searches and restraints, first aid/CPR and more.
Pretrial/ Probation/ Parole OFFICER
Pretrial, Probation & Parole Officers strive to provide a positive change in every town, village, and neighborhood in Alaska. POs provide quality supervision that hold offenders accountable, while connecting them to community partners and resources that can provide individuals with the tools for long-term change and success.
Competitive Pay
Starting salaries for Pretrial, Probation and Parole Officers range between $26.61/hr to $49.38/hr depending on location. A PO I will advance to a PO II after 12-14 months of probationary service and upon successful completion of the Alaska Police Standards Council certification requirements. Officers are eligible for scheduled raises annually.

The Department of Corrections operates pretrial, probation and parole offices across the state including Anchorage, Bethel, Dillingham, Kenai, Kodiak, Mat-Su, Barrow, Fairbanks, Juneau, Ketchikan, Kotzebue, Nome and Sitka.
Flexible Schedule
Pretrial, Probation and Parole Officers work a 37.5 hour workweek. There are opportunities for flexible scheduling in the evening and on weekends.

Medical Professional
The Alaska Department of Corrections is responsible for providing medical, behavioral health, dental and vision services to individuals incarcerated in Alaska's correctional facilities. DOC medical staff provide timely access to essential care through an evidence-based multidisciplinary approach and are committed to a culture of professionalism, quality and safety.
SALARY
The Department of Corrections offers competitive salaries for a wide variety of medical professionals including nurses, psychiatric nurses, health practitioners (physicians assistants and advanced practice registered nurses), mental health clinicians, physicians, dentists and dental hygienists. The Department of Corrections welcomes new graduates and provides access to free continuing education units.
STATEWIDE OPPORTUNITIES
Each of our institutions around the state requires a dedicated health care team with locations in Anchorage, Eagle River, Palmer, Point MacKenzie, Fairbanks, Bethel, Nome, Kenai, Seward, Juneau and Ketchikan. We also have travel positions available for nurses and health practitioners. Because we are a 24-hour, seven day a week statewide system, healthcare staff have opportunities to fill in at other facilities across Alaska if desired.
Flexible Schedule
The Department of Corrections offers a variety of schedule options for health care staff. Schedules are determined by facility needs which can include eight-hour, 10-hour, 11-hour or 12.5-hour shifts. Many nurses and health care practitioners within our institutions work 75 hours in a seven day week with a week-on/week-off schedule.

Because we never know who will walk through our doors, every day our health care staff face new challenges and new learning opportunities. The corrections population has more chronic care issues than the general public, higher rates of mental illness and higher rates of substance use. We run daily ambulatory care clinics, have two infirmaries, two acute hospital level psychiatric treatment units and four subacute psychiatric care units; we respond daily to injuries, medical and psychiatric emergencies and chronic health concerns.
