Correctional Officers Gifting To Alaskans in Need
Alaska Department of Corrections Correctional Officers volunteering at The Neighborhood GIFT with The Salvation Army Alaska Division and other Alaska social services and faith-based programs.
Officers were able to help families in need receive toys and food for Christmas. More than 15,000 toys were given out this holiday season.

Mat Su Pre Trial Has Record Number of GED Grads
As of December 7, 2016 Mat Su Pre Trial’s Facility’s Education Coordinator Kaye Saxon had her 20th graduate pass their GED this year.
That’s a record number of graduates at MSPT that Ms. Saxon gives much of the credit and success to MSPT inmate Ross Forys for his role in volunteering as a math tutor this year.
Ms. Kaye Saxon started her career with the Department of Corrections as the Education Coordinator at MSPT in July of 1998. She is dedicated to helping the inmates that pass through these doors of Mat-Su Pretrial to become a better person walking out than when they walked in.
The classes she conducts for the offenders here at Mat-Su Pretrial are include GED/Tabe Testing and pretesting, CAP, Inside Out Dad Parenting Family Ties, Non-Custodial Dad 5 part curriculum, Parenting with Dignity, Parenting – Domestic Violence/ACES, Parenting – Talking with Moms, Parenting – Spirituality in Fatherhood, Parenting – Out of the Ashes, Parenting – Children of Addiction, AK Food Workers Card, Career Advantage Series, Cognitive Self Change, Choosing Change I, II – offered continuously (post CAP), Computer lab, Monitors use of Law Library (Digital Law Library) for prisoners, Misc. communication, relapse prevention and post release success classes, Various Art classes during holidays and approximately once weekly for parenting art, Coordinated access to representatives of Veterans Administration and Child Support Enforcement, Coordinated Anger Management programming, Assisted inmates with correspondence vocational programming, and maintained, reorganized recreational library and supervises the Prisoner Facility Orientation.
Ms. Saxon is truly one of the special employees within the department looking to make a difference in the lives of the inmates she has the opportunity to come into contact with to help them make their reintegration back into our communities a safe one.
