Commissioners check in on Goose Creek construction progress

The Commissioners of Corrections and Labor-Workforce Development spent a good part of a morning touring the Goose Creek Correctional Center construction site at Point Mackenzie. The tour was an opportunity for Joe Schmidt and ‘Click’ Bishop to receive a full update on construction progress from the main contractors. The commissioners found all main buildings fully enclosed and heated.

PCC Community Work Service Teams clean up


Community Work Service teams of Correctional Officers and volunteer inmates from Palmer Correctional Center cleared 19,045 pounds of trash from Mat-Su Borough roadsides this year, according to figures released bu Superintendent Cindy Betts. Besides the roadside detail work, CWS team from PCC performed maintenance tasks at recreation sites around the borough, including Slipper Lake, Russian Jack, Hay Flats-Resurrection Lake. The teams also provided clean-up work at the Mat-Su Animal Shelter and at the landfill.

CWS teams from Point Mac Correctional Farm also contributed time and labor toward preparing the area’s girl scout camp for the summer season.

HMCC inmates ‘give back’ with generous holiday donations

The Hiland Mountain Correctional Center Native Culture Council has adopted the villages of Larsen Bay and Atmautluak for this year’s “Adopt a Village program. In addition, the Inmate Council Club has adopted two families through the Salvation Army. The inmates raised approximately $8,000 for the two villages, and $6,000 for the two families. Many handcrafted items are included but are not reflected in the cost figures.

Staff changes at Anvil Mountain Correctional Center

Please welcome Patricia Eckroate as Anvil Mountain Correctional Center Food Service Lead. Patricia is a long-time Nome resident and brings years of food service experience. Also, please welcome Darcy Verdin to her new position as AMCC accounting clerk. Darcy began her service at AMCC in 2005 as administrative clerk and has proven a valuable part of our administrative team.
