Smiles for a Child project of King Career Center class

The Anchorage School District King Career Center’s Public Safety & Security class is conducting a community service project paired with the Palmer Correctional Center in Sutton. On Thanksgiving weekend students and instructor Teena Calkin will be at the Simon 5th Ave. Mall in downtown Anchorage collecting new unwrapped toys for over 100 children of incarcerated inmates at Palmer Correctional Center.

Incarcerated parents are usually unable to give their child a gift at Christmas. This criminal justice class is working with the correctional facility in order to bring a smile to a child during the holiday season. The gifts will be wrapped and given or sent to inmate’s children.

Last year’s drive was a huge success thanks to the many personal, business, charitable organizations and local and national retailers. Anyone wishing to donate gifts or postage shouldcontact Instructor Teena Calkin at the King Career Center at 742-8996 or calkin_teena@asdk12.org.
